HEART DISEASE

You do not want to be a heart disease statistic

Far too many join the long list of those who suffer from heart disease. So often most people are not aware of what causes it. They do not give attention to their cholesterol levels or take the time to check for high blood pressure. For those who ignore these issues, they may find themselves suffering from congestive heart failure.

There are a number of different terms used to describe heart conditions. Some of them are almost identical to each other, but often with some differences. One of the more general terms used is that of “heart disease”. It is a term that in reality encompasses a number of different conditions.

The number one killer in the United States

This is a term that is often used by the media, the pharmaceutical companies and the medical community. One should be aware that this would include a number of different reasons for the heart to fail. You may have already read something about coronary artery disease (often referred to as coronary heart disease). It has been estimated that seven million of us in this country have CAD. Some 500,000 in this country die from heart attacks as a result of CAD.

CAD is the result of the coronary arteries that distribute oxygen and nutrients to the heart, narrowing or even being clogged completely. The loss of blood supply may result in chest pain (also known as angina); a heart attack as a result of myocardial infarction (interruption of blood supply to a part of the heart) or cardiac sudden death (the result of a severe abnormal heart beat.

Congestive heart failure as a result of a weakened heart that is no longer efficient in pumping blood, is a leading contributor to heart failure as well.

Four stages you want to avoid

We tend to finally give attention to changes in our heart muscle cells when there is a catastrophic event. When we have that heart attack (myocardial infarction) we suddenly realize that there is something wrong with our heart. Find out more about Ischemia, Angina, Infarction (Heart Attack), Heart Failure.

Take some time and learn about heart disease. The heart and the system that supports it are of utmost important to your good health and key to having good health without meds.
