High blood pressure symptoms are often ignored. The biggest problem with high blood pressure is that there most often are no symptoms noticeable by those afflicted with the problem. For this reason it is often referred to as “the silent killer”. Unless one is taking their blood pressure, they often do not know that it is a problem for them. People with high cholesterol may want to make a point of paying attention to such symptoms. Now, there are some high blood pressure symptoms that people with unusually higher blood pressure may be aware of. The problem of course is that these are also issues that one may have somewhat routinely. For many, they occur for a number of different reasons, other than blood pressure issues. TAKE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE – Should you experience high blood pressure symptoms that are associated with issues such as- – headache – dizziness, – blurred vision – nausea or vomiting – chest pain – or shortness of breath ORGAN DAMAGE COULD HAPPEN Should one suffer from high blood pressure for a long period of time it is very likely they may suffer various forms of organ damage such as: – Heart attack – Heart failure – Stroke or TIA (transient ischemic attack) – Loss of vision or eye damage – Kidney failure – Peripheral artery disease (PAD)/leg pain while walking – Aneurysms (ballooning of the aorta MEDICAL CARE About 1% of people with high blood pressure do not seek medical care until the high blood pressure is very severe, a condition known as malignant hypertension. In malignant hypertension, the diastolic blood pressure (the lower number) often exceeds 140 mm Hg. Malignant hypertension may be associated with headache, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, and stroke like symptoms Malignant hypertension requires emergency intervention and lowering of blood pressure to prevent brain hemorrhage or stroke. It is of utmost importance to realize that high blood pressure can be unrecognized for years, causing no symptoms but causing progressive damage to the heart, other organs, and blood vessels. |
